IMPRISONMENT FOR LIFE

A DEATH SENTENCE COMMITTED.

SYDNEY, January 24. Tho death sentence passed on the youth Roberts for the murder of Mr Parkes, landlord of tho Captain Cook Hotel, in October last, has been commuted to ono of imprisonment for life. Mr Parkes, an invalid, was roused by hearing a man in his room. Ho awakened his attendant, and then Roberts, who was in the room with burglarious intent, shot at and wounded him. Ho also wounded the attendant.
