VICE-REGAL. Lord and Lady Liverpool will attend the Wellington RacL-io. Club’s meeting at Trentham to-da:. Their Excellencies leave Wellington for Christchurch on Monday evening. On arrival they will lie welcomed by the Mayor of Lyttelton, and at noon the Mayor ot Christchurch extends to them a civic welcome and luncheon. In the afternoon Lord Liverpool will lay the : foundation stone of the King George V. Coronation Hospital. His Excellency holds a laveo at 4 p.m. During their stay in Christchurch Lord and Lady Liverpool will bo the guests of Mr A. E. G. Itnodes, To Koralia, Merivale. On Wednesday their Excellencies leave Christchurch for Dunedin, where they will receive an address of welcome from the Mayor and Councillors at tho Town Hall. Lord Liverpool holds a levee on Thursday. Their Excellencies will stav with Dr Lindo Ferguson. Lord and Lady Liverpool return to Christchurch on Friday next, and will attend the C.J.C. summer meeting on Saturday, returning to Wellington on Sunday, February find. The Hon. W. Russell, general man, ager of the Union Bank of Australia, Melbourne, is visiting Auckland. He will come South before his return to Australia. Campbell and W. E. Morris have been appointed members of the Civil Service Officers’ Guarantee Board. Mr Campbell succeeds Mr J. W. Poynton as a member of the Teachers’Superannuation Board. Mansfield, Registrar-General, has left on a visit to Tasmania, to inquire into the working of the Hare-Black method of election, lie will arrive there in time for the forthcoming general elections. Whan in Pahiatua recently a representative of'the Foxton “Herald” had the pleasure of meeting Mrs John Vile, who has attained the great age of ninetysix years. The old lady was taking a walk abroad in tho evening. Mrs Vila Is comparatively halo and hearty. Mr N. E. McKenzie has been appointed an Inspector by tho Auckland Education Board. Mr McKenzie is forty-five years of age, and at present holds the position of headmaster of the Mount Eden school. Ho has had twenty-two years’ experience as a teacher, and in November and December of last year was acting-inspector under the hoard. Mr Hugh Hamilton, general manager for New Zealand for the Vacuum OH Co., leaves on February 14th for Melbourne, where he has been promoted In anexeentivoposition. Mr J. L. The many friends of Mrs Edwin Ban-, nister, an old and much respected colonist, will be interested to hear that al*. though now eighty-four years of ago, arrived from Palmerston North, where she now resides, in order to meet her son, Mr Robert--13. Bannister, who arrived from Sydney this week. Mrs Bannister, senr., who. will be remembered as a resident of Wellington for many years, is in’ the best ot health, and yesterday afternoon entertained a number of her old Wellington friends, who congratulated the old lady on her brightness and vigour. Writing of the death of Cone table Cal* mody, the ‘‘Wairarapa Age” says: Tho late Mr Carmody had mado many friend* during his residence in Carterton, and was universally respected as a good citizen and officer. Born, at Orepuki, in. the South Island, ho entered the police force in 1900. After doing duty in Wellington be was transferred to Christchurch, and from there ho went to Hast' mgs, doing mounted work. Later he wa» transferred to AVellington on mounted, work at Mount Cook station. After that he bad charge of tho Clyde quay station, Wellington, and from there he was transferred to Carterton. Deceased was married at Napier some six years ago to Miss Eeidy, of that town® and leaves a widow and family of four children. Hie father is in the police force, stationed at Whangaroa. The funeral will take place at Napier on Sunday. As a mark of respect to deceased, the Magistrate'sCourt adjourned for half an hour on Thursday, the Magistrate, Mr L. Glleid, S.M., making feeling reference t« tii a deceased officer. The body of the late Mr Hugh Rose, of the Wellington Post Office Savings Bank staff, who died at his residence. Kclbutne, last Wednesday, was interred at Karori cemetery yesterday morning. Being a lieutenant in the Post and Tek graph corps, and having fought with Hie First Contingent at Colesburg, New Zealand Hill. _ Kimberley, and Pretoria,, in South. Africa, the deceased was accorded a military funeral. Covered with the Union Jack, the coffin was carried on a gun carriage, and .the sth Regiment Band, under Bandmaster H. McComish, headed the cortege. The- chief mourners were Master B- Ross (deceased’s eon), Mr W. Marton Post and Telegraph staff. Southern Cross Lodge of Oddfellows, and many of deceased friends. The Post and Telegraph corps furnished the firing party at the graveside, and the ‘‘Last Post” 'T 35 by Corporal Johnston, ot the Royal New Zealand Artillery. The bunal service was conducted by Chaplains Shirer and Compton.
