aHMSTCHTJBCH TOURNAMENT. PLAT STOPPED BY RAIN. Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH. January 24. This morning was simply glorious for the fifth day of the 'bowling tournament. Christchurch green was the locale where sectional ties and green finals were completed. There was a very large concourse of the public present to watch the various games, and considerable interest was shown. Play in nearly every case was of a very high order, and in some instances reached the height of perfection. In the afternoon an adjournment was made to Canterbury green, where the president of the association (Mr Barnett) and Mrs Barnett entertained the ladies and bowlers generally, a large attendance being present. Play did not conclude till 7.45. and about 6.30 a fairly heavy shower fell. Results: CHAMPION RINK. Green winners, Canterbury No.. L Porteous (Ponsonby) 24, beat Hath (North End) 22. > Sydenham green.—First round ; Woolf (United) 23 beat Bentley (Dunedin) 18, Kerr (Newtown) 19 beat Porteous (Ponsonby) 15. Second round: Kerr (N ewtown) 26 beat McDonald (Green Island) 15, Woolf (United) 26 beat MoLachlan (Taieri) 19. Pinal Kerr (Newtown) and Woolf (United) played fourteen beads when rain stopped further play; Kerr 10, Woolf 6. The game will be finished tomorrow, CHAMPIONSHIP DOUBLES. McDonald (Green Island) secured third prize, and MeLachlan (Taieri) fourth prize in the championship doubles. Semi-finals: Thomson (.Wellington) a bye, Rennie (Southland) 27 beat Casey (Ponsonby) 16. The final between Thomson and Rennie will be played to-morrow. CHAMPION SINGLES. Section, tie: M. Walker (Ponsonby) 18 beat W. Allan (Taieri) 5. First round: W alter (Ponsonby; 17 beat MeLachlan (Taieri) 11. Final: J- J. Bentley (Dunedin) 19 beat il. W alker (Ponsonby) 18. F. Smith (Kaitunaj and A. McLachlan (Taieri) are to play in Dunedin for third and fourth, prize. AOBANGI DEFEATS AUCKLAND. HAMILTON, January 24. The return bowling match Aorangi (South Island) versus South Auckland resulted in a win for the former by one point—157-156.
