HUTT COUNTY COUNCIL.

The ordinary monthly meeting of the Hutt County Council was held, at the Council offices, Lambton-quay, yesterday afternoon. Present : Councillors TayDr (chairman), Chew, Lancaster, Smith, Morgan, Speedy, Dick, and Monaghan. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Four tenders were received for the post of ferryman at Waikanae, and their consideration was ordered to stand over to the 24th instant. A. number of tenders were also received for the construction of several sections of bridle track, but the contracts not being signed, the particulars have not been made ** On the motion of Councillor Mokaohax, seconded by Councillor Moboan, it was resolved that tenders be invited from persons willing to value the different ridings in county, for the purpose of levying a rate, anil that a special meeting of the Council be held on the 24th November, for the pnipoc-j of opening the tenders received. Councillor Moxaohas moved that all dog lax collectors in the county be given notice that their appointments will be cancelled as from the Ist January, 18SI, aud that the clerk write to the Government on the subject. The Council went into committee on the report of the Chairman on his interview with the natives on the West Coast with regard to the subject of opening roads through that district, and it was resolved that the Chairman communicate with the Government on the subject. Councillor Dick moved that the Engineer bo authorised to expend a sum not exceeding £IOO in lengthening the floating dam protecting the Hutt bridge, or to carry out such works for that purpose as he may deem necessary. Seconded by Councillor Speedy, and carried.

Councillor Monaghan moved that the sum of £ls be expended in cutting a bridle track to the Waireki Creek. Seconded by Councillor Smith, and carried. It was further agreed that the money'be expended under the direction of the representatives of the riding. Accounts amounting to £337 1-s. Hd. were passed for payment. A number of purely routine matters having been considered, the Council rose.
