CABLE NEWS. (REUTER’S TELEGRAMS.) Constantinople, November 9. The Porte is sending farther reinforcements of troops to Dervish Pasha, who, together with Riza Pasha, has now left the neighborhood of Dulcigno. St. Petersburg, November 9. Owing to the famine which it is feared is impending in Russia, the prices of food generally, but especially of wheat, are rapidly increasing. Much alarm exists, and the Government threatens to transport some of the leading grain merchants for the manner in which they have raised prices. , PRO VINCI AD. (united press association.) Dunedin, November 10. A gentleman in town has received a letter from Alexander, stating that the Australian team are anxious to visit New Zealand, playing two or three days at each of the principal towns, if suitable terms can be arranged. Their leave has been extended. Christchurch, November 10. Over 5000 coupons were received for th' Canterbury limes’ prize of £3O for correctly placing the first three horses in the C.J.C. Handicap, which was won by Mr. Digby, of Christchurch. Yesterday, Richard Shaw fell off a tram car, and the wheel passed over his shoulder, which was severely fractured. John Strott, while leading a hull into the judge’s ring, was rushed and gored. He was quickly released, but was severely hurt._ The show is continued to-day, which is kept as a general holiday. The weather is again fine.
