THE NEW MAYOR OF DUNEDIN AND THE CITY COUNCIL.
(per press agency.) Dunedin, Wednesday. At the City Council meeting, last night, the following resolution was moved, but as an objection was raised to suspending the standing orders, it could not be put :—“ That this Council requests the Mayor to resign his office, on the ground that he does not hold it by right of popular election, as intended by the Legislature when framing the Municipal Act.” The Council ultimately decided on fixing the Mayor's salary at £1 per annum.
