Roderick McLennan, who was recently charged at Napier with wife murder and acquitted. was brought up to-day at the R.M Court here and committed for trial on a charge of forging and uttering a cheque for £25 on the Bank of New Zealand, at Geraldine. The meeting accepted a deed of assignment. Hill, the hospital steward, charged with iu_ decent assault on a female patient, was again trie 1 yesterday, the previous jury having been unable to agree. The new jury were locked up all night, but were unable to come to a verdict, and were discharged this morning. The prisoner was again committed to take his trial at the next criminal sessions on the 22nd January. Bail was allowed. John Hill, his brother, is also charged with an indecent assault, and will take his trial to-day.
