A man named Horne was charged with cutting his wife on the shoulder with a pocket knife during a quarrel. The Friendly Societies have resolved to hold a united demonstration on the 30th of January. He is a brother of James Hill, now awaiting his trial fora similar offence, alleged to have been committed on a patient at tin: hospital. Accused was committed for trial at the District Court on Thursday next. He was admitted to bail, himself iu £IOO, and two cureties in £SO each. Dunedin, Saturday. Five insolvencies were filed during the week. The principal are—George Campbell, master mariner, with liabilities £1521, assets £llO ; and George Atkinson, proprietor of the Tribune, with no particulars filed. The Rev. J. McNicoll, Presbyterian minister, died suddenly at Waihola. Bishop Neville held a confirmation ceremonial at Port Chalmers on Friday. Twentyfive candidates received the sacrament. The Art Association opened its season today. Bishop Neville delivered a long address at the opening. There was a cruise of the Naval Brigade launch this afternoon.
