LYTTELTON, Wednesday. Aitp.iv'£i>: Seabird, from Hokianga. Sailed: Lurllne, for Napier; Croyden Lass, for Nelson. The following vessels were in pnrt last night:— Stcamors—Samson, Tui, Waitaki, liuia, andllinemoa. Ship-i—Kakaia, Wairoa.St. Leonards, Opawa, Arethusa, and Zcalandia. Barques—Malay and Anne Melhuish. Brig—Neptune. Three-masted schooners Ellerton and Sophia. Tlio Union Company's steamer Waitaki arrived in harbor at 4 p.m. yesterday from Port Chalmers and LytteUon, leaving the latter port at G. 39 p.m. on the flth; experienced strong head winds and heavy sea throughout tho passage. The Waitaki sails at 2 o'clock this afternoon for Manukau and intermediate ports. The sailing of the steamer Hula, for Foxton, has been postponed till 3 o'clock this afternoon. , Mcstrs. Shaw, Savill's ship St. Leonards completed loading yesterday. She will haul into the fairway to-day, and probably sail for London to-morrow. The N.Z.S. Co.'s ship Eakaia is rapidly filling up, and should get away for London in about two weeks. Tho Union Company's steamor Wellington left Nelson at 5 p.m. on tho Oth, Pieton at 3 a.m. yesterday, arriving in port at d a.m. She "ailed again at 2 o'clock in the afternoon for LytteUon and Port Chalmers. The steamer Tui is expected to come off the slip today, and is advertised to leave to-morrow for Wanganui. Messrs. Shaw and Savill's ship Hermione will otne on to this port from Lyttelton to load for London. She follows the Zealandia. The steamor Stormbid should arrive this morning from Wanganui. She returns to tho same port at i o'clock in the afternoon. Tho extensive alterations which are being effected to the steamer Co-Ahead by Mr. E. Seager, of tho I'hceni.t Foundry, are rapidly approaching completion. Tho boiler and engines were yesterday transhipped from the Opawa, tho boilor being at once placed in position, and the engines will be fitted up in a few days. It is expected the vessel will be ready for tho trial trip in about a month. The Union Company's steamer Arawata, from Melbourne and flobarton, via Southern ports, is duo here to-morrow morning. The Union Company's steamer Wakatipu, from Lyttelton and Port Chalmers, will arrive in harbor on Saturday morning. She Bails again at noon for Sydney direct. The Union Company's steamer Jtotomahana is maintaining her reputation of being the fastest stea uer this side of the Line, she having made the passage from the Bluff to Hobarton in 65 hours, or an average of nearly 14} knots per hour, notwithstanding she had to contend agaiust a gale of wind for twentyfour hours.
