Two puny boys of the larrikin class, named Fx-ith and McLean, were arrested to-day by Detective Quia on a charge of breaking into and stealing from the State school, Hokitika, on Monday night. The whole of the stolen articles were found in their possession. Adokhkd, Wednesday.

The particulars of the burning of Harris’s upper mill, at Whangapona, show that the fire was observed by Harris, jnn., at 11.30 on the night of the 10 th, but all efforts to extinguish it proved futile, and no doubt it was accidental. Harris has [mother mill in the settlement. The one which has been destroyed was idle for the past two years, but fires had occasionally been placed under the boilers to px-e----vent them from becoming mildewed, and on the evening of the 21st such fires had been burning. The mill was insured in the Koyal Insurance Company for £1250. The estimate of the damage done which is not covered by insurance was £2OOO.
