FIJI NEWS.

(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Auckland, Thursday. The new Governor received a deputation from the chief of the Rotomah Island, urging annexation. He said their petition had already been sent to England, with a recommendation that it should be favorably entertained. Rewa planters complain of want of crushing appliances for their cane when ripe. The Governor made a speech to the principal settlers, recounting the re.sults of his visit to England. He said he had arranged for an advance of £30,000 or £40,000 on account of the loan, aud also for a Land and Credit Company to operate in the colony and make advances. He read a return from agricultural statistics in Fiji, showing that 1772 acres are sown in sugar, 1219 in coffee, 2390 in cotton, 9166 in coooanuts, 1000 in maize, aud 70 in tobacco.
