(PER PRESS AGENCY.) Grahamstown, Wednesday. A flower show in aid of the Hauraki Ladies' Benevolent Society is being held in the Academy of Music. There is a crowded attendance, and the show is a great success. Tho R.M. Court was occupied all day with the case of alleged larceny, by ex-Sergeant Lambert, of Government documents relating to Volunteer scrip. Majors Murray and Cooper were examined to-day, and the further hearing was adjourned till to-morrow morning. Albumin shares are still advancing ; sales at 925. 6d. Christchurch, Wednesday. Thomas Houlihan, a prisoner, G 6 years old, undergoing a six years’ sentence for rape, died last night in tho gaol. At the inquest held to-day a verdict of “Died from natural causes ” was returned. A painful accident happened to a man named F. Pugh at the Weka Pass railway works on Tuesday by a fall of earth. One of his legs was broken, the other iujured, and one arm very severely bruised. There is a proposal to render the Ashburton Old Men’s Refuge self-supporting, by making ■the inmates do remunerative work suitable to their condition. Nothing has been heard lately of the unemployed agitation. Dunedin, Wednesday. About £SO has been collected for O'Brien, whose two children were burnt to death. John Winton, charged with rape, was committed for trial.
