The amount of Customs duties received at this port for thejweek ending 11, IS7O, was as follows
The probable alteration in the tariff has checkei sales to any great extent in tho articles likely to h affected by the change, but has resulted in an in creased payment of duties on some of tho stocks ii bond. I rade continues duller than usual at this tinn of year, and complaints are rife of a great falling of in sales, both in town and country. Quotations uomi nally aro tho same as our last monthly report, witl the ex ‘eption of brandies, which have advanced full] 10 per cent, and sugar 20s per ton. At a sale by auc tion of ship’s stores the following prices were realised —Oatmeal, 26« per cask of 200 lbs; currants, 4?d raisins, sjd; loaf sugar, 40s; preserved potatoes, 16; Ocl per tin of i-ewt; preserved milk. Ss 6d per dozen Morton’s sauces, 7s 9d; salad oil, hf-pints, Us; three cases qr sardines. Os Od : preserved meats—mutton 2,1 d ; beef, 2Jd ; soup, 4s to 5s per dozen : pork, 50; per barrel; rice. 20s; peas, 16s per cwt. &c. Colonial produce remains at last week’s rates. There is n( demand for salt butter at 7Ad to 8d : fresh in keg, Sd cheese dull afcSd to Sid for best Canterbury; Hour £l4 to £l4 10s for Oamaru and Canterbury mills—stocks light; oats are in full supply at 2s Cd to 2s Sc per bushel; maize in little demand at 4s 3d to 4s 6d wheat for fowl feed scarce, and worth 4s 6d ; bran ; no demand, 7d to Sd ; sharps, sales at £G per ton potatoes, scarce, and worth £S to £lO ; oranges and lemons, 0s to 12s per case.
