Monday, August 18. (Before T. A. Mansford, Fsq., R.M.) JUDGMENT SUMMONSES. Wiggins v. Higgins—£l3 4s. 6d. Defendant ordered to pay amount by instalments of £2 per month, or undergo eight weeks’ imprisonment. Madden v. Taylor—£l 10s. Ordered to pay debt, and costs, in 14 days, or go to gaol for seven days. CIVIL OASES. Judgment was given for plaintiffs in the following cases :—Eddie and another v. Lovelock—£4 I4s. fid. ; Gardiner v. Belcher, £6 10s. ; Dawson v. Clark, £lO ss. 4d. ; Ribry v. Tollins, 15s. France v. Wills—This was a case in which Mr. France, jun., sued the captain of the s.s. Huia for damages to a whaleboat—£2o. Mr. Ollivier appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Quick for the defendant. It appeared that the plaintiff had purchased the boat from Mr. Davidson, at Kaikoura, and the boat had been forwarded to Wellington hy the Huia, hut was stowed in such a manner on her keel acrossthe vessel that she was seriously damaged during the trip. For the defence it was contended that the boat was rotten. Evidence was taken on either side, and judgment was reserved to Thursday. Mclntosh v. Pike—This was a claim for £32 9s. 9d., architect’s commission and work and labor done. Mr. Stafford appeared for plaintiff, and Mr. Gordon Allan for defendant ; and the case—an unimportant one—was gone into at some length, and then adjourned until next day.
