MASSACRE OF A BOAT’S CREW.
(PEB PBBSS AGENCY.) Auckland, Tuesday. By the arrival of the brigantine Meg Merriles we have news of the massacre of a boat's crew from the Auckland schooner Agnes Donald at Pentecost Island. The Agnes Donald returned to Levuka from a labor cruise on the 2nd instant, and the captain reported that while at Pentecost Island a boat’s crew lauded, and the men were attacked on the beach by the natives. The crew of the boat were under the charge of the mate, a young man named George Simpson, who was well known in Auckland, from whence he came. He fired his revolver and wounded one of his assailants. He was struck on the head and knocked back on the beach, and was killed. Three natives who composed the crew were literally torn to pieces. Simpson was a young man, and his wife and infant are in Auckland. Mr. Donald proceeded to the residence of the widow this afternoon to break the sad intelligence to her.
