Melbourne, August 5. The Garonne brought the full details of the crowning victory over the Zulus by Lord Chelmsford near XJlundi. The force under Lord Chelmsford’s command was about five thousand in all. These were composed of Europeans and natives, of whom there were a thousand. There were also a cavalry force and a battery of 12 guns. Chemsford's demands for the restoration of the Isandula trophies and a heavy indemnity in cattle not having been complied with, the whole force immediately advanced, and a strong position taken up between XTnadwengo and Ulundi, where they awaited the attack of the Zulu army, which was estimated at 20,000, and under the command of Cetewayo himself. The Zulu regiments commenced the attack in the morning in a determined manner, but the artillery did terrible execution amongst the dense masses of Zulus, tearing great gaps. The guns being well served the Zulus wore severely handled while advancing, and the rout was completed by the cavalry charging the wavering ranks, aud cutting the Zulus down by hundreds. Over 1000 were killed. The British loss was about half the Zulu loss. Earl Derby continues to urge the agricultural population to emigrate to America and the Australian colonies, as the best remedy for the prevailing depression. The Prince of Wales is not likely to visit the Sydney Exhibition.
