THE OPERA COMPANY.

TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sib, —lu reply to Mr. Hughes’ letter, which appeared in your issue of yesterday, complaining of my criticism with reference to the absence of the instrumental parts for the band in the opera of “Martha,” I will content myself with saying that I and many others are astonished that a gentleman of his standing should have been content to risk his professional reputation by attempting to perform an opera of which ho knew the orchestra wece utterly ignorant and I am the more confirmed in this opinion by the lamentable failure of last night.—l am, &0., Musical Critic. Wellington, July 17.
