Sydney, Thursday.
It is anticipated that there will be a severe constitutional conflict to-night between the two Houses of Parliament, owing to the difficulty over the Land Bill.
The arbitrators have awarded to the Torres Strait Mail Company the sum of £2OOO, salvage for saving the vessel Ocean. A great increase has taken place in the shipping of Sydney. It has been found impossible to supply all the coals required for the steamers.
The opening of the Sydney Exhibition has been definitely fixed for the Ist October. The interest co the new loan has been fixed at 1 per cent. The debate on the Premier’s resolution is proceeding.
Arrived—Hero. Sailed—Wakatipu and Australia. Melbourne, Thursday. Negotiations are proceeding for the amalgamation of the Commercial, Austra’ian, and European Hanks, and for the transference of the business of the latter to the former.
Breadstufis are advancing in consequence oi cable advices.
