Sailed: Hawea, at 12.40 p.m., for Wellington. The following vessels were in port last night:— Steamers—Samson, Star of the South, and Southern Cross. Ships—Pleiades, Wave Queen, and Pori. The steamer Star of the South, from Westport, arrived in harbor at 0 o’clock yesterday morning, fho loft the Grey at 3 p.m. on the 13th, and arrived at Westport at S am. on the 14th: left again at 4 p.m., and arrived as above. She experienced head winds with fine weather from Westport. Captain Bayldon reports picking up a shoal buoy 11 miles E. by N. off PareweJl Spit. The steamer Stonnblrd, for Foxton, got away last evening. The steamer Southern Cross left Lyttelton at 4 p.m, on Thursday, and arrived In harbor at 3.30 yesterday afternoon. Captain Helander reports having experienced very thick weather from Lyttelton to Capa Campbell and had to go dead slow for six hours; She goes North via the East Coast to-day. The barque Hudson will clear at the Customs today for Oamaru, where she will load grain for London. She will probably leave hero on Monday. The steamer Tui, from Wanganui, arrived in harbor at 6 o’clock yesterday morning. She left Wanganui on Thursday, and experienced fine weather round the c*iast.

The brig Robin Hood was towed to an offing by the Moa yesterday afternoon, and at dusk last night had all sail set, leaving the harbor for Newcastle. ■ • The barque Sophia R. Luhra has had quicker despatch than any vessel that has ever entered Wellington Heads. She has discharged 1009 tons coal and taken on board over 200 tons of ballast In four days. She left yesterday for another cargo of black diamonds.

The steamer Albion left yesterday afternoon for Melbourne via the South.

The steamer Manawatu left yesterday afternoon for ■Wanganui. Tho steamer Hawea, from Auckland via the Bast Coast, is due here this morning. She leaves for the South to-morrow.

Tho steamer Rangatira, from the Manukau via New Plymouth and Wanganui, is duo hero this morning. .Tho steamer Wellington, from the Manukau and intermediate ports, should arrive here to-day. The little steamer Moa came off the Patent Slip yesterday morning. She has had a thorough overhaul and her bottom covered with sundry anti-foullng compositions for the purpose of testing their qualities. One of these compositions is suitable for wood as well as Iron, as it is said to resist the worm, barnacle, and sea-wood. One coat will stand fnr three years if tho vessel is kept off the ground. This last composition lias been invented by a gentleman residing in New Zealand, and if the coating proves successful his Intention is to have it patented.
