THE BANKS.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. SIR, —"Sour correspondent “An- Old Colonist” concludes his letter on the above subject, as follows, vizi:—“ In fact, the banks have invested too much capital in the colony, the public having made ' too free ’ with banking capital for trade purposes, bad speculations, and otherwise ; hence the pressure, not on the public, but on the banks by the public.” I would please learn by what possible means the public could make “ too free ” with banking capital ; and, further, did not the banks induce and press upon the public to make what your correspondent is pleased to call “ too free " a uae.of their capital 3 Granted what I have stated, with whom lies the origin of the present pressure t I may be wrong in my remarks, as I am only, &c., A Yotmo Colonist.
