MARINE DEPARTMENT.

From the annual report of the Marine Department we extract the following tables of general interest :—The expenditure on new lighthouses out of Immigration and Public Works Loan during the financial year 1877-78 was as follows:—Brothers lighthouse, £340 65.; Portland Island, £1704 10s. 9d.; Puysegur Point, £3418 12s. The following statement shows the amount of-pilotage, port charges, &c., collected at the four chief ports in New Zealand during the financial year ended 30th June, 1878: —
