VITAL STATISTICS.
The following tables show the death-rate. of infants under one year old during January, February, and March in this city ; and for the purposes of comparison a similar tabic of the infant mortality in Dunedin during January and February is given, from which it will be seen that the rate of mortality has been from three to four times greater among infants in Wellington than it has been in Dunedin.
The annual rate of infantine mortality in a few large towns elsewhere is as follows Melbourne and suburbs —1876 16'3 per cent, „ „ 1877 10'9 ~ London—lß7o-74 .. .. ICT „ Bradford „ .. .. 202 „ Liverpool ~ .. .. 23*9 ~ The Registrar-General has supplied the following details of last month’s vital statistics for Wellington Total deaths from zymotic diseases of all ages, 25 ; of infants, 12 ; and 2 deaths from typhoid fever. During the past quarter 84 deaths of infants have been registered in Wellington. In Dunedin, during the whole of 1878, only 87 deaths of infants were registered.
