CARBINE MATCH.
WELLINGTON AHTILLKKY V. NELSON NAVAL naiGADr. The carbine match between the "Wellington Artillery Volunteer.-, and the Nelson Naval Brigade came off yesterday at the Polhill Gully range. Lieutenant McOredie was in command. The day was favorable for good scores. In weapons the visitors had slightly the advantage, their carbines being; of the latest Imperial pattern, while the home team fired with the old weapons, which are badly sighted and often untrue. The teams were divided into two squads of four on each side, tlm first firing in the morning, and the second in the afternoon. The ranges were 200, 300, and 400yds., the target for the first two being 6ft. by 4ft., with 2ft. centre, and Sin. bull’s eye. For the 400yds. the larger sized target, with 4£t. centre, and 2ft. bull’s eye. The teams had luncheon on the ground. The result of the firing of the first squad was as follows :
