COLLISION BETWEEN THE GO-AHEAD AND HITIA. Tho inquiry into the collision between the steamers Go-Ahead and Hula was continued at the Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday afternoon, before T. A. Mansford, Esq , R.M., and Captains Fraser and Roberts, Nautical Assessors. The following evidence was taken : George Ilurthiug sworn, deposed as follows: I am mate of the Go-Ahead, and hold a certificate of competency as mate. I was on board tho steamer on the 2nd. I was below from 12 to 4. I came on deck at 3 a.m., and went on to tho bridge, and saw a steamer with a green light and masthead light. She was about two lengths aw ay from us at this time. Our vessel had stopped, and tho engines were going astern. Tho (Jo-Ahead had no sternway. Shortly after I came on deck tho Huia struck ns about sft abaft tho stem, on the port bow. r i>o iluia had considerable way on her. and was coming across our bows when I came on deck. I called to-those on board tho Huia to ascertain what damage was done. Tho iluia stopped when she, was about 150yds from us. By Mr. Qui k : lb was immediately after I came on deck that tho collision occurred ; perhaps half a iqinute. William Johnston, an A.B. onboard the Go-Ahead, deposed as follows: —I was at the wheel at the time of the collision. I was steering south and west, and did not alter It until I was told co port, at about half-past 3. The second mate gave mo orders. Tho wheel is on tho hrid-.'O, I saw a steamer ahead fifteen minutes before I ported. She was about half a point off tho : starboard helm, I heard tho o-der “stop her” given ] on board our vessel.
