At the turning the horses al got in a cluster. Malvern made a grand rush through the field, and led to the turn. There was an evident struggle for first place past the stand, Gillie pressing Malvern hard. Flirt here shot out, and Gillie dropped to third place, Memento good fourth. The final turn round was most exciting ; whips were freely used, and the race home between Gillie and Flirt left the former winner almost on the post. Time, 3min. 52sec. Betting—Waikato people backed Flirt and Memento heavily against the Auckland horse. WAIKATO STAKES. Eally -- .. .. 1 Memento 2 William Martin rode Memento and led off at top speed. Rally, ridden by W. Bond, collared the former and ran a neck and neck race into the straight for the final struggle, Eally winning by half a lenth. Robin Hood dropped back at the half mile. A large number of Cambridge people attended. Indeed every district appeared well represented. There was a serious accident in the morning. A cart, containing two men, three women and children, was backed by the horse over the bridge into the water. By a miracle all escaped serious injury, but were wet and bruised.
