ATUU VAL OF THE SHIP DUKE OF AXHOLE. The fine composite built ship Duke of Athole, from London, was signalled as being off the Heads at 8 o’clock yesterday morning. Fortunately for her there was a fine light breeze from the south, and which enabled her to sail in at once without any detention. The Duke of Athole has never been in our waters before; she has previously traded to Sydney and Melbourne, and on this occasion has been chanored by the Now Zealand Shipping Company. She is under the command of Captain Elliott, who is also a stranger here, having never been on the New Zealand coast before. The ship comes into port very clean both aloft and below. Her passengers, only 28 in number, have enjoyed the best of health, and speak In high terms of praise of Captain Elliott and his officers. No deaths or births occurred during the voyage, and nothing took place to mar tho good fueling which existed throughout. She brings a large and valuable cargo of general merchandise, which will bo discharged as quickly as possible. Having powder on board, she was brought up some little distance from tho wharf. This will be landed to-day. when tho ship will occupy a berth. Immediately on arrival she was boarded by the barbormaster aud other official*, who at once gave her a ** clean bill.” The following brief account of her passago was supplied to us by the chief officer:—The ship left tho Downs on tho 31st October, and took hot final departure from tho Lizard ou tho Ist November with very unsettled weather and heavy gales from the’uorth-east. Between latitude 31 and 21 a continuation of strong gales was experienced, with heavy seas No d imago was, however, done to ihe ship. Picked up the north-east trades in 21 north. Passed !st. Antonio on the 17th November. Tho trades were lost in 19 north. Crossed the equator in 28 west. 27 days out Got tho south-east trades in latitude 1 south, aud lost them in 27 south.
