Tho German barque Marie passed North at 1 p.ra, LYTTELLON, Tuesday. Arrived; Dido, from Waitapn. Hailed: Hopeful, for Manukau ; Especulaclor, for Newcastle ; Onward, for Pclorus Sound. The steamer Wellington is duo hero to-day from Nelson and PJcton. Tho schooner Saxon sailed yesterday afternoon for Waitara. The Stormbird arrived here at 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon. She left Wanganui on Monday at midnight, and experienced flno weather along the coast. She returns again to-day. Tho brig Jane hauled in to tho wharf yesterday and commenced discharging. The schooner Day Dawn, from Pelorus Hound with timber, arrived Jn harbor yesterday. She left on Monday, and had lino weather across. The steamers Go-Ahead and Manawatu, which left here almost together on Monday evening for AVanganni, arrived within half an hour of one another yesterday. AVo hear that Captain Scott has purchased the now ketch Comet, which lately arrived here from Hobarton, Tho Comet will add another to our numerous poloriM Hound coasters. The Huia arrived early yesterday morning from Wanganui, having made a good run of a little under twelve hours. She returned to the same port last evening. Tho ship Fcrnglen has commenced taking in cargoAs the wool is coming in from tho coast in large supplies she will get quick despatch. Tho Kiwi, with a full cargo of wool from the East Coast, arrived at the wharf shortly before daylight yesterday morning. Him leaves again for another cargo to-day. Tho Jane Douglas leaves to-morrow about midday for Poxton. The steamer Kennedy, from Nelson, arrived at the wharf yesterday mprning., Hhn left Nelson on Monday night at 3 o'clock, and experienced fine weather across. The ship Pleiades is at a standstill on account of not being ablo to get ballast. She has yet a quantity of cargo to discharge, which is required in the hold until she receives her ballast. LOSS OF LA PEROUSK.’ An inquiry was held on the 3.lth Instant by tho Marino Board at .Sydney, into tho loss by foundering of the schooner La Perouse, bound from tho Clarence to Lyttelton. Tho Board, after hearing tho following; , evidence, reserved its decision :
Patrick Power said ho held a master's certificatefrom this Board, that the vessel was built In Jervfc Bay about eighteen months since; when she foundered she was bound from thoiClarcncc to Lyttelton; she was insured: she had been out about ten hours when (tho foundered; about h df-past two o'clock his attention was drawn to the water in tho hold, and the pumps wero then got to work; he then tried’ to make the iUchmond; the wind then was S.S;E:, ami the weather was flue; she gradually* made moro water, and when she was abandoned- there was 3ft Gin; three hours after the, boats left her she foundered; the, water had g-'imed at the rate of Gin overy half hour; Sho'iilate'y advice.was to make for tho liiohmond. and life (witness) kept on that course until he was connpolled to abandon her. Before leaving the Clarence the vessel made about Idin In thp twelve hours. Ho did not think the vessel a strong one. Peter Ingram, the mate, gave similar evidence, and expressed an opinion that tho, master had done right in leaving tho schooner. Two of the seampn stated that the master, had. done right *n abandoning her, Neither though! tho v.ossel have been beached.
