(REUTER’S TELEGRAMS,J Mbuboubnb, Tuesday. A memorial from the unemployed to the Governor is in course of preparation, representing the existence of severe distress, and praying tho Government to take steps to ameliorate the same.
The discovery of a new rich quartz reefing district in Gippsiand is reported. The Canterbury team return to NewZenland to-day, after being feted by the Melbourne and East Melbourne Clubs.
The Argus publishes the following particulars respecting the ultimatum sent to Cetewayo by the Cape Government :—lst. Surrender of culprits who abducted Natal women. 2nd. A fine of 680 head of cattle. 3rd. Disbandment of the Zulu arUy. 4th. Full permission to the missionaries to return to their country, and guarantee of safe conduct. 6th. Appointment of British Resident. The Government promise n fair trial to offenders. It is stated that Cetewayo has an army of fifty thousand men, and that his influence extends to the Equator. Sydney, Tuesday. Several destructive fires have occurred in Melbourne and this colony, involving serious loss. Three children have been burned t» death at Collingwood. Mr. Parkes, in the Assembly, promised amending Laud and Chinese Restriction Bills. He proposed a short session. Sailed—Tararua.
