THE ATHLETIC SPORTS.
■■ ■ ■ TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES. Sir, — As the twenty mile walking race takes place this afternoon I wish to reply at once to a statement contained in an evening paper, signed by the secretary of the Artillery Band. The advertisement referred to in the letter was not inserted by the Athletic Club, but by the purchaser of the gates, &c., who has also posted the placards, which state that the race will start at 2 p.m., and that twenty-two competitors will take part. I wish it to be understood that those misstatements are not due to the Athletic Club. The club has engaged a private baud of some ten or twelve performers, but nob the Artillery Band. Furthermore, the race will not be started till 3 p.m., andthenumberof competitors cannot certainly be more than seventeen.— I am, &c,, , Hon. Secretary Wellington Amateur Athletic Club. Wellington, Dec. 13.
