The Agent then led till half way up the straight, when Te Whetu came up, and, after an exciting finish, won by half a length, Shillelagh a bad third. Mr Bay’s Maritana, Oat ~ ~ 1 Mr Fraser’s Plnflre, Cat 121 b 2 Nemo also came to the post. Betting : 3 to 1 on Maritana, 8 to X agst Nemo, 4 to 1 Pinfire, When the flag fell Nemo hung at the post. Maritana and Pinfiro raced for a mile together, when some people shouted a “ false start.” Maritana and Pinfire pulled up, but shortly afterwards Ray on the former started
again, Pinfire's rider following, and both raced all the v/ay home, but Mari tana catno in first. The owner of Nemo lodged a protest against Maritaua winning, on the ground that no start took place. The steward* did not sustain the protest, and awarded tho stakes to Maritaua. HOSPITAL RACE. Five started. It was won by Mr. McKay’s Zenobia. WKLUSG RACE, Of 60 aovs. Vom* started. Won by Exile. THE KLYIKQ STAKES. Won by Mullock's Foul Play, 7st 101 b. Vallance’s Lady Elloo, 6st 101 b, Neilsou’s Luna, 7»t 41b, Blue Peter, 6*t 101 b, ami Templeton, 9st lolb, also ran. Betting: Even money on Templeton and Lady Kllou, 3 f o 1 agst Luna, 5 to 1 Foul Play and Blue Peter. Directly tho flag fell Foul Play look the lead, attended by Luna, Lady Ellen, and Blue Peter; Templeton four lengths behind, 'This order was maintained to the straight, when Foul Play drew away easy. Lady Ellen second, Luna third, a length ahead of Peter, and Templeton six lengths away. Time, 1 min. 49 sec. There will be a meeting of the stewards tonight, at which Ray has been asked to attend to explain why Templeton was not ridden out. CONSOLATION HANDICAP. Ratcatcher. Bst 01b 1 Orange Lightning 2 Pluo Peter S Betting : Even on Ratcatcher, 2 to 1 others. Ratcatcher took the lead from the start, was never headed, and won by two lengths.
