The steamed Manawatu arrived in harbor early yesterday morning, after al2 hours* passage.from WanBa Tho barque Sophia E. Lahra sailed early yesterday morning for Newcastle. Tho Kennedy left Nelson on Thursday evening, and arrived at the wharf at 3 o’clock yesterday morning. She sailed again during the evening for Blenheim. The brigantine Enterprise and schooner Dunedin cleared at tho Customs yesterday. They both go to Kaipara. The s.s. Rotorua cleared Sydney Heads at 7 p.m. on the 20th; arrived at the Bay of Islands on tho 25th at 10 a.m., coaled, and sailed again at 4 p.m.; reached Auckland at 4 a.m. on the 20th; proceeded at 5p.m., and anchored in Hawke’s Bay at 8 a.m. on the 28th; left at 1 p.m. and arrived here at 10 o'clock yesterday morning. Westerly winds were experienced throughout the passage. Sho sailed South during the afternoon. We have to thank Mr. R. B. Pringle, purser, for flies, report. See. The Clematis left Cashpoint on 3londay night; had head winds till Tuesday night, when the wind changed into tho westward, and she arrived off the Heads on Wednesday, but encountered a strong north-west gale, which carried away the jib and drove the vessel to the southward. She then ran to Cloudy Bay for shelter ; got a southerly wind yesterday morning, which brought her into port, arriving at 4 p.m. The brigantine Esther arrived here yesterday afternoon from Havelock, after an uneventful run across. She brings a cargo of timber, which she will discharge to-day. The ship Zealandia has now over 4000 bales of wool on board, and will probably be filled up by the end of next week. Her departure for London is fixed for tho sth proximo. The following feat of dry docking a large iron steamer (which for rapidity appears to be hitherto unparalleled) was lately performed by the Victoria Graving Dock Company;—The Navarino, of 3557 tons, belonging to the British India Steam Navigation Company, left her discharging berth in the Victoria Docks late on the evening of Wednesday, the 28th ult., and . was placed in tho large new ’floating dock belonging to the Victoria Graving Dock Company (Limited). On Thursday morning the docking was commenced at 6.45, and the ship was dry at 8.25. She was then scraped up to the deep load-lino (22 feet), the whole of the bare and rusty places were touched up with ono coat of Rahtjen’s protective composition, and tho whole bottom then received one complete coat of their anti-fouling paint. Tho work was completed and tho ship was again afloat and on her way back to her loading berth at G o'clock the same evening. NOTICE TO MARINERS. LIGHTHOUSE AT CURRIE HARBOR, ON THE WEST COAST OF KING ISLAND. A lighthouse now in the course of erection at Currie harbor, on tho west coast of King Island, will bo ready for exhibition early in 1879. The following is a description of the tower, and the light that will bo exhibited Tower: Is an iron tower 70ffc. high, supported by six cast-iron columns, the lower ends terminating in screw piles. It has a wrought-iron light room and central tube for staircase ; it will stand on an eminence about 70ft. high, on the south side of Carrie harbor, in latitude 39deg, 6Cmln 45secS., longitude 148 deg, 57min E. Light: Is of the first order, dioptric bolophotal revolving, with flashes every twelve seconds—viz 7 five flashes and eclipses alternately in a minute, will illuminate ISOdeg of the horizon, and will be 150 ft, above the sea level.
