FIRE AT DUNEDIN.

(per press agency.) Dunedin, Friday. A fire broke out this morning a few minutes before 6 o’clock in Schutt and Walton’s, photoghraphers. On one aide the flames spread rapidly to the premises occupied by Messrs. Murphy (bootmaker), Richardsan (saddler), and the Rainbow Hotel, at the corner ; and on the other side to the shops of Messrs. Millichamp(sawmaker), Doodeward (general dealer), Dreaver (draper), and Brown (plumber), while the largo buildings recently used for the purposes of the Carnival, on the oppssite side of the street, suffered much from the groat heat, Mr. Ingles’ principally. b Schult and Walton were fully insured up to six weeks ago, when their policies lapsed, and they neglected to renew them. They estimate their losses at between £4OO and £SOO. Brown was insured for £2OO in the Colonial office, and estimates his loss at £I2OO. Murphy was insured in same office for £IOO. Doodeward’s stock was insured for £2OO, and his losses arc about £6OO beyond that amount. There was also a policy for £l5O on the buildings. Tondut’s hotel and stock were insured in the South British for £9OO, and for £260 in the New Zealand office. He estimates hia losses at £I4OO to £ISOO. Millichamp is a heavy loser, his only insurance being for £3OO on the stock iu the Norwich Union. Richardson’s stock was insured in the New Zealand office for £350; and Dreaver’s in the Standard office for £3OO, and for £4OO iu the Union. His furniture was insured in the Standard for £IOO. He estimates his loss at £IOOO beyond the insurance. £3OO of Dreaver’s risk was reinsured by the Standard office in the Phcenix. The following are the total insurances : Standard, £3OO ; Union, £4OO ; CoUnial, £SOO ; New Zealand, £800; South British, £1100; United, £256; Norwich Union, £650; Northern, £400; Phomix, £3OO : total, £4700.
