DUNEDIN RACES.
(PER PRESS AGENCY). Ddnedin, Friday. The spring race meeting of the Dunedin Jockey Club commenced to-day. The weather was particularly favorable. The attendance, however, was not large. The results of the racing were as follows: MAIDEN PLATE, Of 40 sovs. One mile and a half. Weight for ago, Mr Goodman’s York, 7st Gib 1 Mr. Ponder's Jattses 2 Mr. Taggart's Talisman, aged, Osfc 71b .. .. 3 Shillelagh, 9st 71b, and President, Bst 113 b, also ran. York was the favorite, and won easily, ST. ANDREW’S HANDICAP, Of 100 sovs, with a sweep of 3 sovs. Two miles. Mr Mason's Mufti, 4 yrs, 7sb 71b 1 Mr Goodman’s Chancellor, 4 yrs, Sst 31b ~ .. 2 Mr Mason’s Camballo, 4 yrs, Cst 121 b .. .. 8 Mr. Logan’s Cloth of Gold, 5 yrs, Sst (51b ; and Devery’s Agent, 5 yrs, 7st 51b, also ran. Blue Peter and Luna were scratched. Mr. Mason declared to win with Mufti. Betting: 3 to 2 on Chancellor, 2 to 1 against The Agent, 1 to 1 against Mufti, 5 to 1 against any other. Chancellor ran a waiting race, and towards the finish went through the field and looked as if he would win. Mufti, however, challenged him at the distance, and a splendid [race home ensued, which ended in favor of Mufti by half a length. Time, 3min. 44sec. TROTTING HANDICAP, Of 50 sovs. Three miles. Mr Taggart’s Our Pony, 475yds 1 Mr Jewett’s Polly, aged, 600yds 2 Mr Porsyth's Modesty, 400yds 3 Tommy, Bella, Black Boy (aged). Mystery (250yds), and Snip, also started. Our Pony won easily. ladies’ purse, Of 35 sovs. Ono and a quarter miles. Welter weights. . Gentlemen riders. Mr Goodman’s York, Dst 2lb 1 Mr Nollson’s To Whotu, 12st lib 2 Mr Dodson’s I'rcstdeat, lOst 01b .. ; .. .. 3 Starlight, Dalesman, Vampire, Camellia, and The Agent were scratched, York was the favorite, and won easily. Time, Imin, 25Jsec, SPRING HANDICAP, Of 50 sovs. Ono mile and a distance, Mr Mason’s Lady Bllon, *lyrs, 7st 1 Mr Xoilson’s Luna, 4yrs, Sst lib 2 Mr Smith's Dcnjiroo, aged, Sst 31b 3 Blue Peter, Ratcatcher, Dalesman, Larrikin, and Sapphira also ran. Luna was the favorite, and a splendid race took place between her and Lady Ellen. The latter won by a head. Time, 2miu. SXscc.
