Arrived : Maori and Taranaki, from Port Chalmers; the New Zealand Go’s ship Rangitikei, Captain Milman, from London, with 59 passengers and large cargo, including two thoroughbred mares for Mr. Carter. The Rangitikei is 105 days from the docks, and 98 from land to land. She left the Downs on August 4, the Lizards on August 7, and crossed the equator on September 15 ; passed the Capo of Good Hope on October 10, and had light and variable winds to Tasmania on November 8, when a succession of fierce westerly gales was met with up to yesterday, the Snares having been passed on November 13. On September 5, in Odeg longitude, picked up two Portuguese sailors, pact of the crew of the Portuguese ship Atnerique, They had been in the water in a swamped boat for fifty hours- Two others of tin boat's crew had been seized by sharks, and two more had died from exhaustion. The survivors had to beat the sharks off with tho bottom boards ©f the boat. On November 4 a saloon passenger, the Rev. W, Warwick Craigle, died from phthisis, and on November 8 a seaman named R. S. Cornish was washed overboard during a tremendous gale. Tucker was off The Brothers when the Stormbird arrived yesterday. The steamer Hawea sails to-day for the South. The steamer Murray, from Nelson, arrived at 0 p.m. * on Saturday. She left the same morning at 8, and experienced fine weather, with heavy beam seas. The steamer Taiaroa left on Saturday forenoon for the North, taking a large number of passengers. The steamer Wellington leaves to*day on her usual Nelson and Ficton trip. The steamer Stormbird is to be taken on the Patent Slip first thing this morning. The steamer Arawata, for Melbourne via the South, leaves to-day. The barque G. M. Tucker was towed to sea on Saturday by the Manawatu, bound to Newcastle. Tho ship Rakaia will be shifted from tho wharf to-day. The topsail schooner Young Dick and tho brig Jane arrived at Kaipara from here on the same day. The steamer Mauawnfcu loft on Saturday forenoon. The barque Edwin Bassett, bound to Newcastle, got under way on Saturday, and anchored in Worser Bay. Yesterday forenoon she made a fresh start, and by the afternoon was oat of sight. Captain Dolle, of the Stormbird, reports seeing a fall-rigged ship and two barques, heading west, in the Strait.

The steamer Bangatirv left the wharf yesterday forenoon. The steamer Mauawatu leaves here on Tuesday at noon, iustetd of la the evening, as previously advertised. The steamer Jano Douglas, from Fozton, arrived in harbor at midnight on Saturday. She left Fozton at 3 p.m., and experienced fine weather and heavy seas. She brings more cargo from the Hyderabad, and berthed at the breastwork. She leaves again this evening. The steamer Wellington left Nelson at 10.30 on Saturday morning ; stopped at D'Urville’s Island, and arrived at Picton at 7.30; remained thereuntil midnight, and arrived here at G. 15 yesterday morning. Experienced fine weather throughout. Tho steamer Arawata left Nelson at 11.45 a.m. on the 16th. Cleared the French Pass at 2.25 p.m., and arrived at Wellington at 7.45 the same night. The steamer Murray leaves to-night at ten o’clock for Nelson and the West Coast. The steamer Wakatipn, for Sydney, leaves here on Friday. The Hinemoa leaves here for the ICawau on Wednesday. Inquiries were held at the Besident Magistrate’s Court on Saturday relative to the stranding of the ship City of Auckland and the wreck of the barqne Carlota at Port Nicholson Heads. The evidence given was in the main the same as that already published. The steamer Glenelg, from Otaki, arrived here on Saturday night. The greater part of her time since leaving here has been spent under Kapiti, owing to the tempestuous weather. The steamer Stormbird, from Wanganui, arrived at the wharf at 2 p.m. yesterday. She crossed the ban at 8 a.m. on Sunday, and experienced fine weather, with heavy beam sea. till arrival. She reports the steamer Go-Ahead arriving at Wanganui and crossing the bar shortly after the departure of the Stormbird. Tho steamer St. Kilda was in Wanganui when the Storm- j bird loft The schooner Aurora, for the East Coast, will pcoi bably leave this evening. The topsail schooner Hally Bailey, from Hobarton, arrived off the Heads early yesterday morning, and beat up the harbor during the afternoon. She left Hobarton on the 9th, and for the first six days experienced fine weather with moderate easterly winds. After arrival off this coast had. strong westerly gales with heavy seas. The steamer Hawca, from Auckland* arrived at the wharf at 6 o'clock yesterday afternoon. She left Auckland on Thursday at 5 and.arrlred at Tauranga at 4.45 a.m. on Friday; sailed-at 9a.m., and arrived afc Poverty Bay at 4 a*m. on Saturday; sailed at 0 a.m.. and arrived at Naplor afc 5 p.m. the same day; sailed at 9 p.m. for Wellington, arriving as above. Experienced fine weather with light westerly winds to Poverty Bay, strong fi.E. wind with heavy to Napier, and light fik. wind with heavy sea to Wellington. The »,». Glenelg arrived from Foxton at midnight on Saturday with a railway plant ex stranded ship Hyderabad, ami berthed alongside the reclaimed land to discharge. Tim- Glenelg left hero on the Ist Inst., with a punt in tow for the ship Hyderabad. Arriving at Kapiti, 105 fathoms of chain cable was placed on board the punt, which proceeded with her and anchored off the ship at noon on the 3rd. The sea being moderate, veered away the punt close to the ship, attached end of chain to hawser, hove punt off close to steamers stern, shackled on chain ateemed ahead, and laid the heavy 21 * ton anchor out successfully by 4 30 p.m A hairy «« setting In, the Glenelg returned . to Kapiti on the following morning, and remained there through stress of weather until the 13th, when she again started for the scene of operation. Finding too much sea at the Hyderabad she proceeded on to Felton, leaded cargo, and left at 2.30 p.m. on Saturday. She leaves again this evening for Horowhonua. ■Hr. It is really a treat In these days of cheap slop-built boats to see one with the strength, stylo, and finish combined of the one which wo were shown on Saturday. Mr. Hobart is well know* on the West Coast, where ho supplied nearly all the eoaiters trading there with boats, and also several large orders from different parts of the

colony. Wellington seafaring men have long felt the want of a good boatbuildcr who could give them a serviceable boat at a reasonable price. If Mr. Hobart cannot supply the above want no man in tho colony can. Wo understand that tho Stella will take her down to Mr. Robinson’s station ai soon as she returns to Wellington.
