The police received a report on Monday of a rather strange occurrence. On Saturday a young man about twenty years of age, dressed in sailors’ clothes, was seen at Terawitti. He met Mr. Maomanamau, a settler there, who invited him to dinner, and after dinner put him on his way to Makara. The young man declined to give his name, and seemed somewhat strange in his behavior ; but said he to the barque Malay. The strange part of the affair is that the young man did not go to Makara so far as can bo ascertained; but-on Monday a small boat belonging to Mr. Maomanaman,keptfor fishing purposes, was missing, and then subsequently found on the beach half-full of water, andjlwith a hole in the bottom,
