EDUCATION BOARD.

The Education Board held their ordinary monthly meeting yesterday. Present—Hon. C. Pharazyn, Mon. W. Gisborne, Yen. Archdeacon Stock, Rev. J. Patterson, Messrs. Bunny, Pharazyn. Hutchison, and Beetham. MINDIES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. DEPUTATION. A deputation from Tawa Plat wailed on the Board with an address from the school com* mitte, requesting that a now school might be erected at Tawa Plat, as the building was said to be insufficient for the present accomodation of the children. The Board promised to take the matter into their early consideration. On the motion of Mr, Piiauaztn, it was resolved that the building committee take steps to acquire a better site for Tawa Flat school, and to erect the new school buildings thereon as soon as possible. TIIORNDON SCHOOL. A letter was read from the Education Be* pavtment, with a plan of proposed schools at Thorudon. It was resolved that a deputation, consisting of the Hon. W. Gisborne, "Ven. Archdeacon Stock, Rev. Paterson, and Mr. Toomatb, wait on the Government and endeavor to secure the sites. RETURN or CHILDREN. A letter was received from the Education Department stating that they were unable to give the number of children between the ages of 111 and 15 until the census was complete. • RESERVES. A letter was -received from the Education Department re receipts from reserves. —The matter was referred to the Finance Committee to report upon. MB. DOHERTY, A letter was read from Mr. Doherty re his classification. The late Board had deferred the consideration of the question of classific ition raised by Mr, Doherty until they were in possession of further information ; aud as Mr. Doherty was not in the services of the present Board, they had no power to comply with the request. APPLICATION FOR £lO. A letter was read from Mr. Browne applying for £lO, being amount deducted from his salary on account of decrease iu attendance. It was resolved, on the motion of the Rev. Mr. Pateksox, that the £lO be given to Mr. Browne. JOHNSONVILLE. A letter was read from the school committee of Johnsonville asking the Board to fix a time for their meeting. It was resolved that tho first meeting should take place on Monday, October 4, in the schoolhouse, at 7 p.m. LOSS ON SCHOOL ROOKS. A letter was read from Mr. Bowden rc loss on school books.—The Board referred Mr. Bowden to the Edrcatiou Department. LEAVE OF ABSENCE. Leave of absence for three mouths was granted to Mr. Wakeliu and Mr. Lewis. GREVTOWN SCHOOL. It was resolved that Messrs. Beetham aud Pharazyu be empowered to deal with the circumstances connected with the Grey town school, to convene a meeting of the school committee, aud to take such steps as they may necessary to secure its welfare. RESIGNATIONS. The following resignations were accepted:— Miss Colgau, Mrs. Swan, aud Mr. Samuels. APPLICATIONS. The following applications for teachers were considered :—Mr. Berry to bo appointed to the Waingawa school Mr. Falle’s application was referred to the Teachers Committee ; Mr, Gordon’s applications was also referred to the committee ; so also was that of Hr. West. PAHAUTANUI. Tho Board authorised £8 to be expended for repairing the fencing of the Pabautanui school. AIDED SCHOOLS. Au application for a new school at Taueru was considered and agreed to on the understanding that a suitable teacher could be found. GLADSTONE. Thy same resolution was confirmed iu tho district of Gladstone. I’EATUEUSTON. The Board resolved to fjraut £25 for repairs to tho fencing at FeatUersfcou school. CARTERTON. It was resolved that a teacher’s residence, coating £350, at Carterton bo erected; the committee to secure the land for £SO. INCREASE OF FAY. Mr. D. Gordon applied for an extra £o. Tho Board resolved not to grant it. APPOINTMENT. Mr. Lillingtou was appointed second master to the Taranaki school. TENDERS. The following tenders wore received for building tho Mungaroa school:—R. McDonald. £205 (accepted); X'\ J. Eagan, £305 Lie. lid.; J, V. W. Petersen, £275. TE ARO .SCHOOL. A letter was read from the Te Aro school committee, re leasing tho school. The terms were accepted, aud Archdeacon Stock was authorised to «oe that the necessary deeds bo prepared. It was also arranged iu connection with this school that the sum of £5 be voted to pay for tho erection of a gallery. Tho Board then adjourned.
