DIRECT MONTHLY STEAM SERVICE WITH THE COLONY.
The Hoa. Mi. Macandrew yesterday gave in the House the following notice of motion for to-day Resolved, —That a dirhct monthly steam service between New Zealand and the mother country would be highly advantageous to both countries, and that the Government bo authorised to enter into arrangements for the establishing of such service, subject to the following general conditions : 1. Vessels to be of such draught of water as shall enable them to enter the principal porta in the colony. 2. The contract time between the final port of departure and the first of arrival not to exceed days. 8. Government to guarantee to ship 1000 statute adults by each inward monthly trip during a period of five years from commencement of time, and ts pay by way of subsidy a sum not exceeding £ annually during the same period.
