MUNICIPAL ELECTION.

As our readers are aware, the poll for this ward was adjourned by the returning officer on Thursday evening at half-past five o'clock, in consequence of a disturbance in the booth, until the same hour yesterday. Precisely at the time stated the poll was resumed, ami was continued until six o’clock without any- interruption or disorderly conduct. At a quarter to seven o’clock the numbers were declared as follows ; Miller .’ 31-1 Coffey' 275 Port 199 Dxnks ... .. ... ... 94

Mr Miller is therefore elected. There was apparently considerable interest taken in this election, and a largo number of anxious ratepayers congregated round the polling-booth from the time it war closed until Mr. Amos the returning officer, declared the result. Several members of the police .force were iu attendance, to preserve law and order if necessary, but there was no occasion for their services. None of the candidates addressed the ratepayers. The declaration of the poll was received with loud cheers. 6211 voters recorded their votes, which amounted to a total of 882. 905 papers were given out, ami 23 were rejected as informal, Luring the half-hour the poll was kept open yesterday 82 votes were recorded, and the numbers were made up and the result declared iu threequarters of an hour, which. certainly shows that no time was lost by the officials. The result of this municipal election ii generally regarded as satisfactory.
