THE LATE INQUEST AT FOXTON.

.(From the /fewß SOth August. We 'are glad to dad that our remarks upon tire late inquest have met with general approbation, and « trust have done, good. The Government, we aro informed, have been in communication with the Coroner, but the purport has not been mule public. The statement having been published in tiro Wellington paperu, that the verdict recorded. did not express the opinions of the jury, Mr. Inspector Atchison communicated with Sergeant Purcell, instructing him to ascertain if were the case. The following declaration, signed by the whole of the jury, fully bears out every statement we made, and shows that a grevions miscarriage of justice has occurred ; and doubtless the Government, upon receiving it, will instruct the Crown Prosecutor to enter a nolle prosequi. The following is a copy <• I, John McCulloch, as foreman of the jury at the late inquest on the body of Charlotte Taylor, do hereby state that in the rider to the verdict given by the jury wo did not anticipate that, worded as it was, it would lead to the committal of the special constable. Charles Harnett, and the attendant, Wilhclmina Wahle, for manslaughter, but simply desired to convey a sense of great negligence on their part by leaving the said Charlotte Taylor alone unguarded.” Signed by John McCulloch, and the remainder of the Jury.
