EDUCATION BOARD.
The Education Board resumed their business yesterday morning. Present: Hon. C. J. Pharazyn (chairman), Venerable Archdeacon Stock, Messrs. Toomatb, Beetham, C. Pharazyn, and Hutchison. Mr. O. Pharazyn explained that he had not been correctly reported in the New Zealander, 'in regard to the remarks relative to the teacher of the Greytown school,'and again in reference to the Te Aro School Committee.
Mr. Hutchison tendered his resignation as a member of the Te Aro School Committee. On the motion of Mr. Toomath it was resolved that the meeting proceed at once to the discussion of the rules and regulations of the schools. Tiie following new rules were passed on the motion of Mr. Hutchison ; “ The business of the Board and the order of debate shall be conducted according to the usage of other public and corporate bodies. Meetings of the Board shall be open to the public, unless in very exceptional cases, to be determined as occasion arises.” “After confirmation of the minutes, a monthly list of payments made, and requiring to bo made, accompanied by statement of the Board’s finance shall be submitted for approval. Thereafter—(l.) Copies of letters sent by authority of the Board shall be read. (2.) Letters, applications, &c., shall be read, considered, and resolutions thereon (if necessary), agreed to. (3.) Reports of committees shall be given in. (4.) Motions of which previous notice has been given shall be taken.” “ No member shall make any motion initiating a subject without having given notice of same at a previous meeting, or at least for seven clear days pnor to its discussion, or that it may be notified with circular calling the meeting.” « Any member may move an amendment to a motion properly before a meeting, but no second or subsequent amendment shall bo taken into consideration until the previous amendment is disposed of.” It was resolved that the instruction In public schools shall be conducted in accordance with clause 84 of the Education Act, Mr. Toomath moved, and Mr. Beetham seconded, that the Minister of Education be written to asking that the Board might be supplied with a return showing the number of children of school age in the Wellington Educational District.—Carried.
The Board then discussed the regulations and rules relating to the Wellington Educational District, Several alterations and amendments were effected, which will doubtless prove to bo an acquisition to those persons concerned.
