Sir Garnet Wolseley telegraphs that there is no serious sickness among the troops at Cyprus. The despatch boat Lively came into collision with the Queen's yacht, and then sink a private yacht at Cowes. The Queen was not on board. In the second innings o£ the match against Dudley the Australians made 240, of which Boylo made 41. Dudley had seven out for 40, when the game was drawn on account of rain. August 15. The report of the food jury of the Paris Exhibition recommends gold medals to the Melbourne and Sydney Meat Preserving Companies, Tlioro are also other awards to Ballarat, Queensland, Adelaide, and Melbourne. It is probable that there will be a reduction of the deficiency to the extent of £28,000 by tho payment of arrears of land tax on unsold land. A new loan of £9,000,000 is required for railways and other public works. A loan of £4,000,000 is asked to be authorised this year. ' There was a meeting to-day of the Cable representatives, Vlien it was decided not to accept consideration of the Eastern Company’s olfer. Glover leaves for England next mail. It is probable that on reconstruction the company will ultimately agree to tho demands of tho colonics.
