EDUCATION BOARD.
A meeting of the Board of Education was held yesterday morning. Present— I The Hon. C. J, Pharazyn (in the chair), the Yen. Archdeacon Stock, the Eev. J. Paterson, Hon. Mr. Gisborne, Messrs. Toomatb, Bunny, and Beotham, and the Secretary. Mr. Gordon Allan and Mr. Brandon, the Board’s solicitors, were also present. ; . ' ' ’ THE DOHERTY CASE. .
A discussion took place (from which tho representatives of tho Press were excluded) on the question whether or not the Board should go on with the Doherty case. This was carried in the affirmative, the members present dividing as follows:—Ayes, 4 —Hon. C. J. Pharazyn, Ven. Archdeacon Stock, Mr. Bunny, and Mr. Beetham. Noe?, 2 —Rev. Mr. Paterson and Hon. Mr. Gisborne. Mr. Toomath did not vote. Cl/ASBIFICATIOa or teachers,, etc. The report of the examiners at tho recent school examination was read. In reference to the case of Mr. Gurr, of Featheraton, it was stated! that ho had to present himself for examination this year for a higher certificate thahthat which ho held, and had had special examinations sot by the head master of the College Jn Latin, Euclid, physical geography, and drawing, the .result being that he was placed in the first class. The following list of successful candidates at the recent examination of teachers was appended to the report. The names are set down in the order of merit in which they passed :
