THE MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.

. The Conference resumed their business yesterday morning. Present The Mayor of ■Wellington (chairman), Messrs. J. O. Brown, Bowen, Brett, Charters, Standish, Murray, Thompson, and Williams. After the minutes had been rgad and confirmed, Mr. Williams moved,—That in clause 152 of the Municipal Corporation Act, 1876, the word “seven” occurring in the sub-sections l>e struck out, and the word “ eight ” substituted' in lieu thereof; also, that in clause 155 the word “ seven occurring at the end of the clause be struck oat, and the word “eight ” substituted for it.

Mr. Bowen thought the Legislature would never consent to such a proposal.

After some little discussion the amendment as stated was disallowed.

Mr. Brett moved, —That a clause be introduced into the Municipal Corporations Act, 1870, compelling local bodies adjacent to cities -to put in force the Public Health Act.— Carried with slight alteration. Mr. Power moved,—That all lands and buildings within boroughs, save and hxcept Government property and places of public worship, shall be liable to rates.—Carried. Mr. Brett moved,—That all fines and penalties under the Dog Nuisance Act, Drainage Act, ‘Waterworks Act, Pawnbrokers and Pedlars Act, under any by-laws of the Council, should be considered borough funds.—Carried.

Mr. Brett moved, —That it is desirable that as reclamations adjacent to boroughs extend municipal boundaries should follow.

After some other business of a formal nature had been disposed of, the Conference adjourqed until ten o’clock next morning.
