THE OPENING OF PARLIAMENT.
•TO THE EBITOR OP THE NEW ZEALAND TIMES.
Sib, —I' have witnessed the opening of Parliament in most of the British colonies as well as seme of the European countries, and took the opportunity of being present in the Legislative Council last Friday, having been kindly furnished with a ticket of admission. I was much surprised when tho House of Representatives came in headed by their Speaker, that there was nothing to distinguish the Ministers from the other membere, aud on enquiry from my next-door neighbor, who kindly pointed them out to me, I observed that these gentlemen came to meet the Governor in everyday morning costume, instead of, as I have found to be the invariable rale in every other place I have been in, full evening dress, or uniform. I should like to know whether this is the practice in New Zealand, as it appears to me that the course adopted in other colonies is much more befitting the occasion, or any occasion when tho Governor appears in state. —lam, &0.,,- 1 Viator.
