SPECIAL TELEGRAM. London, July 30. In the House of Lords to-night Ministers challenged the Opposition to divide on the Eastern Question. Lords Bsacousfield and Salisbury, replying to Lords Granville and Ripon, insisted that peace became more likely from a policy that defined definite areas and boundaries.
In the Commons, Lord Harrington "blamed tho Government for their neglect of Greece, and denied the necessity that Indian interests depended on the British protectorate of Armenia and said that the Convention made the Britism Empire more vulnerable. Sir Charles Dilke and Mr. Grant-Duff censured tho secreay of the Anglo - Turkish Convention. Mr. Plunket moved an amendment approving of the Government policy. Mr. Bonrke contended that the Treaty improved the position and prestige of England, and opened up the prospect of reform in Asia, and of peace and prosperity there. London (undated.) Tho first innings of the Australians closed for 206 ; the first innings of their opponents 204. . Spofforth took 12 wickets for 55 runs. A reply from Lord Beaconsfield to the address said he was touched by the sympathy of the subscribers, and honored by their remembrance of him.
