SPECIAL TELEGRAM. London, July 6. The Congress has invited Greece and Turkey to agree to the extension of , the Hellenic frontier, which is proposed to be extended from Larissa to the Adriatic. Batoum is threatened with an attack by the Russians. In the cricket match, Australians v. Stockport, the first innings of the Stockport eighteen closed for 105. Blackham stumped four of the Stockport men and caught three. In the second innings the Australians made 225, of which Horau scored 75, a splendid innings. In the second innings Stockport made 134. The game therefore was won by the Australians by 149 runs. It is rumored from Paris that two gold medals have boon awarded to Victorian vinegrowers. The bighost award for wool was to Sir S. Wilson. The gold medal for general excellence in wool was .awarded to Sydney. The preserved meats were highly commended. The Bank reserve is considerably weakened by foreign withdrawals. , Australian securities are characterised by great strength. ■ Consols arc dull at 95}. The wool sales closed with a firm tone, and tho general average shows an increase of from 10 to 12 per cent, on opening rates. The principal advance is on medium. For Australian scoured floece, washed, and greasy prices are unsteady. The corn market is heavy aud inactive. One million quarters of grain are afloat.
The Now Zealand Loan aud Mercantile Agency report under date London, July 6;— Wool sales closed firmly on sth instant. The sales comprised about 200,000 hales ; 90,000 have been taken for export, 44,000 have been held over for future disposal. Trade in manufacturing districts has slightly improved. Wheat is unchanged ; flour, 355. , The wool sales have closed ; 310,000 bales were catalogued, whereof 43,000 were held over for next sales, and 155,000 were exported.
