PRESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tuesday, Junei 18. (Before J. O. Crawford, Esq., R.M.) DRUNKENNESS. - Two inebriates were fined £1 and 55., respectively. BREACH OE CONSTABULARY FORCE ORDINANCE. John Keefe was summoned for a breach of the above Ordinance by creating a disturbance in a public street. He had been in the company of one named Stephen Maginnit y, but the summons had not-been served upon the latter. As Keefe failed to appear, a warrant was issued for his apprehension. HUSBAND AND WIFE,' ' There was ho appearance of ' either complainant or defendant in the case of Hill v. Hill (adjourned from Saturday), and the case was consequently dismissed. LARCENY OF MONEY. Leonard Hancock, a lad ten years old, was charged with stealing sd. belonging to Timothy Joseph Davis, on the 13th instant. The prisoner pleaded guilty.. . , , Mrs. Davis, wife of T. J. Davis, deposed that her husband kept a store in Cuba-street. About 4 o’clock on tho afternoon of the day in question, she saw tho prisoner iu her shop, with his hand in tho till. He asked for a tin whistle, and held up a penny. He ran away, and witness ran after him. Her husband was outside, and she told him tho boy had stolen something. Her husband ran after him and brought him back to the shop. Her husband told him to put down what he had stolen, and he put down fivepence. They detained him for about half an hour, and when the policeman came he was given into custody. She had missed as much as £3 and £4 from the shop, and suspected J*«t the prisoner had taken,it. In answer to Inspector Atcheson, tho prisoner said he would bo. ten years old next September, He was aware his father had. lodged a complaint that ho could not manage him. Two boys watched outside the shop while he went in. p . Inspector Atcheson stated that his Worship could send the prisoner to a reformatory for from one to seven years, and make the father contribute towards his maintenance there. His Worship said ho would adjourn the oasd for a week, and he would communicate with
the Government in the. meantime with a view to seeing to what reformatory tho lad oould.be sent. . , The boy’s father (who is .a bricklayer), was in Court, and was told by his Worship to be in attendance that day week.
