At Taita sports are to bo hold, when tho country pedestrians will no doubt muster in force. On a bright day a trip to Taita is very enjoy able, but all depends upon tho weather. There will bo sculling and other matches in the harbor, head-quarters being at Berg’s Hotel, Clydo-quay. A most exciting match is expected between tho Pet and tho Violet, both Auckland-built boats celebrated for their speed and weathorly qualities. Both have

their admirers, but ! the : Pet-is fcfte - greater favorite. It may be expected that there will be rowing and sailing matches other than those announced. Our Rifle Volunteers will parade at; 8.30. a.m. to fire a feu<leJoie; and the Artillery will, as they always do, turn out in force and'give a salute with their field pieces. At the rifle range the cadets will fire in a match Avith the Christchurch cadets. ' ■ '

In the evening people will be puzzled to choose the place of amusement which they will visit. There will be opera at the Imperial Opera House, a at the Theatre R>yal, a concert at the Athenaeum in which Madame M oiler and Mr. RJ W. Oary will take part, assisted by several amateurs/ At the Odd Fellows’ Hall there is to be a soiree given by the City Rifles, the proceeds to.be derived from which are to be devoted to the family of the late Serjeant Brewer, and on this-occasion the hall should be well filled. It is to be hoped that a really substantial 'sum will be available after payment of all expenses. : ;
