We regret to leam that the coach from ■Wellington to Eoxton yesterday arrived at its destination just 10 minutes too late to catch the train. 'At present the large punt is laid up undergoing repairs, and it is necessary to make two trips by the small punt instead of one as usuab This may in some degree have caused a delay, and have led to the mischance. In order to lessen the inconvenience as much as possible, ,au express was despatched, so as to prevent delay in forwarding the Palmerston and Hawke's Bay mails. Probably it might be well for the railway authorities at Eoxton to give a few; minutes’ igrace, foi* it : would fee quite possible to make up. time on tfee run to Palmerston.! The coach from Eoxton arrived in Wellington at 4.45 yesterday afternoon. ■ Wo understand that Mr. Carruthers, late Engineer-in-Chief, has finally severed his con-: neotioh with the Government, and has received ‘ £llsO, being one year's, salary, in lieu of a year's notice! Pha-. razyn, in reference to the rights of personswho are owners of land abutting on the foreshore, was read, and also the reply of,his Worship the Mayor thereto. A copy of both these documents will be found in another portion Of our columns. •,■, ■

There was no' charge made for admission, and the ladies and I gentlemen presents we're , all there by special; invitation. Previous to the concert the club; had a dinner amongst themselves in the adjoining hotel. Mr. Lyons, of Messrs. Baird' and Lyons, occupied the chair. It is almost needless to add that the club thoroughly eu- j joyed themselves, and did good justice to the good things provided.. At 8 o’clock the concert commenced, iu which a number of ladies and gentlemen acquitted themselves most; creditably. After the first part of .the musical portion of ..the. programme was concluded, three .members of !the club played the. farce entitled “Humber,, One round' the Corner," . which caused much amuse'-' raeut. All who subscribe to the fund may be assured that they are giving their money in a good cause.
