AUSTRALIAN NEWS. Melbsdbne, Monday. : 'The Cable Conference decided to adopt Glover’s recommendation that a second cable : between Singapore and Port Darwin should [avoid the Java land line. The subsidy to the Cable Company is not to exceed £32,400, for not more than'twenty years. The reduction on present press rates is to be one-fourth, or 75 per cent. Wilson, Tasmania representative, attaches to his signature a memo, regretting that the Conference declined to entertain the suggestion that the cable connecting Tasmania and New Zealand be treated as a part of a general scheme of telegraphic communication with Europe.
